3rd place in 2019 Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area and ASEAN Bamboo Design & Construction Competition

The competition was held from 29th Nov to 8th Dec 2019 and jointly sponsored by South China University of Technology and Guangzhou Nan Sha Bird Park. 7th Platform of Asian Architecture & Urbanism (7PAAU) International Workshop


 The 7th PAAU was organized by Centre of Sustainable Architecture (COSA) held from 19-25 October 2019 in Penang & Kuala Lumpur. It has included 90 over participants from universities below:

·  TungHai University, TaiChung

· Silpakorn University, Bangkok

· Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies, Mumbai

· Petra Christian University, Surabaya

· KunMing University of Science & Tecnology, KunMing

The 7PAAU was jointly organized with Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) and Malaysian Institute of Planners (MIP) from the Northern Chapters. The theme, “Inclusive Urbanisms? The George Town experience” was chosen to reflect current pressing issues faced by GEORGE TOWN, which shares similar fate with many other cities in Asia.  

 

The workshop included technical lectures by Dr. Ang Ming Chee (George Town World Heritage Incorporate); Prof. Yushi Utaka (Hyogo University); Dr. Matt Benson (Think City) and Mr. Clement Liang (Penang Heritage Trust). Participants also visited several projects and were given on-site lectures by the local experts. The workshop participants were divided into 4 groups, each working on different themes, and led by members of PAM and MIP Northern chapters, and assisted by staff from the participating universities. 


The group proposals were presented on the last day of the workshop in Penang:-

· Theme A: Penang Clan Jetties: the seafront pioneers

· Theme B: Chromosomes of historic-cultural enclave

· Theme C: Timescaping the city: discovery of hidden gems in George Town

· Theme D: Dilemma of Shop-house

PAM 31st Annual Architectural Workshop

A total of 40 DASD students participated in Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM)'s 31st Annual Architectural Workshop themed as "NYALIA 2019", which was hosted by and held at Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL) from 31 July to 4 August 2019.  UTAR team - "The Neptune Kingdom" was led by two lecturers, Ms Rahmawaty, IAI and Mr. Abdul Muluk Abd. Manan. The five-day event included intensive workshops, lectures, competitions and school liaison meetings. UTAR participated in 6 out of the 8 competitions held, and won in three categories:

1. CODEXXXX TIME CAPSULE DESIGN: First Runner-Up (Group)
2. WAJAH NYALA PHOTOGRAPHY: First Runner-Up (SHUM JOE YIN)
3. BUSANA NYALA FASHION: Honorary Mention (Group)
